Rzeszów: A Cultural Experience

After spending a few days in Warsaw, we were ready to head to Rzeszów to visit some of Miro’s family. We took a short plane ride (about 1 hour) and then rented a car to explore in and around Rzeszów. The city itself is the largest city in Southeastern Poland. It had a similar feel to Warsaw because it also had a Market Square. After talking with locals, we learned that this city is up and coming. Many tourists have been coming to Rzeszów because it is similar to what you can find in Warsaw, but smaller and less crowded.  We stayed just outside of the city with some of Miro’s family. This was a great way for us to get a cultural experience in an area with not many tourists.

Adventure:

Downtown Rzeszów

As soon as we arrived, we hit the ground running, ready to explore the town of Rzeszów. We walked around, did some shopping in Market Square and enjoyed some more Polish cuisine. A tip that we learned after being in Warsaw was that many of the shops in cities such as Warsaw, Rzeszów and Krakow have similar souvenirs – the prices were the lowest in Rzeszów. Happy shopping!

Exploring Castle Ruins

Our our way to visit family, Miro wanted to show Lauren about a place that he used to go to when he came to Poland when he was younger. Zamek Kamieniec is an ancient castle ruins from centuries ago. The castle was Kamieniec Castle. While we were there, laborers were working on restoring parts of the remains. It was amazing to walk around and see what was left after all of these years. The views from the property were great overlooking Krosno County.

Culture & Food:

Downtown Rzeszów

While exploring Market Square we came across another brewery! Of course, we had to try it! Good thing it was lunch time and that this brewery had food, too. We loved our experience sitting outside on the square at Stary Browar Rzeszowski. Both the beer and food were yummy! This was an affordable restaurant, also considering that we were sitting outside on the square. Plus… look at those pours… I mean mugs of beer in the flight! We would love to make it back here on our next visit!

Visiting Family

What a great experience this was for both of us. We loved spending time with family, talking with them about Poland, and making wonderful memories. The drive was about an hour away from the main city of Rzeszów to see them. We went to several homes to visit different family members, had a home cooked, traditional Polish meal made by Miro’s grandma (consisting of potatoes from the garden) and sampled homemade cherry jam. Miro did a wonderful job translating since no one was able to understand English! If this isn’t immersing yourself in the culture, then what is? We had a great visit and can’t wait to go back in the near future.

Find out about what we did in and around the final city we traveled to in Poland, Kraków.
